Darius H.C. Nelson, age 18, a farm laborer, born in New Hampshire, is recorded in the 1860 census as an inhabitant of Manchester Ward 2, Hillsborough, N.H., in the household of Julia F. Nelson, age 45. Also in the household were the two brothers who also served in the war, Sylvester Nelson, age 17, and Albert F. Nelson, age11. ("1860 United States Federal Census," Ancestry.com).
