James F. Whitney was born October 23, 1842 at Albany, New York. He married Emma Frances Chamberlain on October 24, 1874 at Cedar Falls, IA. His wife died January 4, 1894. From 1889-1891 he was a resident of Stow, Mass.; and from 1891 to at least 1912, a resident of Somerville, Mass. (source: pension file)
