Historical Collections
In 2001, the Library
secured a federal LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant to
begin digitally scanning the Town's historical records. As a result of
this project, some of the most historically significant records are now
available to anyone with access to the Internet.
Included on this site are two sets of documents:
Early Town Records
The Town of Acton's official records from its founding in 1735 up to
1764. These earliest town meeting records and selectman's minutes are
full of details of pre-Revolutionary life.

Civil War Records
The Acton Memorial Library was founded in
1890 as a memorial to Acton citizens who fought in the Civil War; as such, the Library
has had since its founding a special responsibility to preserve the memory
of this period of Acton's and our nation's history. In 2008 the library opened "Not Afraid To Go," a permanent exhibit of historical documents and artifacts relating to Acton's role in the founding and preservation of the nation. As part of this project, the online Civil War archives will soon be greatly expanded.
