Picture the Story: Children’s Book Illustrations by Four Local Artists

Categories:

The art of local picture book illustrators Priscilla Alpaugh, Chris Beatrice, Sarah Brannen, and Ioana Hobai will be on exhibit in the library’s Meeting Room Gallery during the months of September and October 2024.

The artists in this exhibit are all part of the Greater Boston Illustrators’ Group, which is part of the New England Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (NESCBWI).

The work featured in this exhibition is from published and soon-to-be-published books. Viewers will gain some understanding of how these artists make their art. Two of the artists use exclusively traditional media, one exclusively digital media and one a combination of the two. Brief statements accompanying each illustration explain what the artist’s process entails, providing a glimpse into what goes into creating each book and a description of the many steps along the way from completed manuscript to published book.

Exhibitions are free and handicapped accessible. Exhibitions in the library Meeting Room are available for viewing whenever the library is open and the room is not in use for a meeting. Please check the library Program Calendar for availability.

At the beginning of each year, the Arts Committee of the Acton Memorial Library invites Massachusetts artists to submit work for consideration for upcoming exhibitions in the Meeting Room Gallery. More information is available on the library’s Artists Exhibition Opportunity page.
