He first
entered the service, as Corporal, April 15th, 1861, with Company
E Old 6th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers and was discharged from
this company but was re-enlisted, Sept. 1861, in 26th Mass. Infantry.
He was
finally discharged Sept. 26, 1862, after a service of fifteen months
and the reason for such was, on account of his disability.
The first
battle that he was engaged in was at Baltimore, Md., on the nineteenth
of April, 1861.
