At Lowell, Mass. on Aug. 31st, 1862, I first entered the service as Sergeant, in Sixth Mass. Infantry Co. K, holding the same rank throughout my service and at the close the rank was still the same.

At the close of my service, I was discharged at Lowell, Mass., on May 31, 1863.

I never re-enlisted, again commissioned or transferred to any other organization.

On Nov. 18th, 1862, my first battle was at Ludlow Lawrence’s Plantation on the Blackwater.

I also took part in the engagements that were at Joiner’s Ford on the Blackwater on Dec. 12, 1862, and April 11th, 1863 Siege of Suffolk which lasted several days.

I was never wounded, confined in prison or hospital.

Among my most intimate comrades were Chas. Reed and Amos A. Parkhurst.
