At Eastport,
Maine, on the tenth of December, 1861, I first entered the service,
as Second Lieutenant, in Company C. Coast Guards Artillery. I was
promoted to First Lieutenant, then to Capt. Bat. Maj. and held
the latter rank at the end of the war.
I was
first mustered out of the Company at Eastport, Me., on September
10th, 1862, and I re-enlisted in Co. E 80th U.S. C. Infty. I was
finally mustered out of the Regiment on March 1st, 1867 at New Orleans,
La.
My first
engagement was at Port Hudson. I was sick in my own tent at Bonnet
Carre, La.
