He first
entered the service as private in Company B. 40th Regiment Mass.
Infantry on Aug. 7th, 1862 in Lynnsfield, Mass.
He was
promoted the rank of Corporal (first) and held at the close the
rank of Acting Quartermaster.
He was
transferred to Veteran Reserve Corps. On Aug. 11, 1863. As the war
had come to a close, he was finally discharged at Washington D.C.
on June 30th, 1865.
He was
engaged with the Veteran Reserve Corps. In repelling early attacks
on Washington and Invasion on Maryland.
He was
confined at Columbian College Hospital. James E. Hayward was his
most intimate comrade. |
