BRIGGS--In Chelsea, at Soldier's Home, September 6, Daniel R. Briggs, 83 years, 6 months. Daniel Briggs was from Acton, MA, a veteran of the 1st Mass. Cavalry, Co. "B" in the Civil War.

Daniel R. Briggs, age 45, a farmer, is recorded as a resident of Boylston, Mass. in the 1860 federal census, in household (45/52) with Lucy Briggs, age 55, and Anna Briggs, age 12 ("1860 United States Federal Census," Ancestry.com).

The name "Daniel R. Briggs" appears in the Acton town records in the "List of persons liable to Enrolment in the Militia of this Commonwealth as returned by the Assessors of Acton July 1,1862." (Acton Town Records: Transcriptions).

Daniel Russell Briggs, age 49, a Tin plate worker, is recorded in the 1865 Massachusetts State Census for Acton, in household (dwelling no. 27/38) with Lucy Briggs, age 59 (Lainhart, 1855 and 1865 Massachusetts State Censuses for Acton: 46).

Daniel Briggs, age 52, a Tin Maker, is recorded as a resident of Acton, Mass. in the 1870 census, in household (36/46) with Lucy Briggs, age 64 ("1870 United States Federal Census," Ancestry.com).

Lucy Briggs died June 4, 1872 in Acton, Mass. at the age of 66 (Acton death register, "Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841–1910," vol. 248, p. 99 [image], AmericanAncestors.org).
