At Acton, Mass. on April 15th 1861 I first entered the service in Company E Old Sixth Massachusetts Infantry.
While in service I held the rank of corporal and at the close of the war I still held the same rank.
I was first discharged on August 3rd 1861 as my time of enlistment had expired but once again enlisted and transferred to Company E 26th Massachusetts Volunteers in Sept. 1861, for a term of three years service.
At the close of the war, after serving a term of four years and one month, I was finally discharged on August 26, 1865.
My first battle was as the Passage of Baltimore on April 19, 1861.
